The Silent Cost of Being a ‘Strong’ Black Woman
Hello Queen,
Pick Up Your Crown: A Reminder to Declare Your Royalty
When I was 13, life felt overwhelming. I lacked the support to navigate the trauma, and abuse I experienced and around me, and society often overlooked Black girls like me. But deep down, I always knew I deserved to be seen, heard, and valued—just as you do.
This truth is the heart of Black Women Amplified. What started as a blog and podcast has now blossomed into a comprehensive women’s empowerment platform, designed to lift and support Black women everywhere. Our foundation is built on a simple yet powerful belief: We have inherent power, and love fuels humanity.
Our work centers on empowering Black women to move past feelings of unworthiness and embrace their full, bold selves. Whether it’s through our podcast, private coaching, or virtual training, we are here to remind you of your divine strength and brilliance.
Why? Because there’s an army out there working to undermine our power. Some attempt to diminish us through psychological warfare leaving us exhausted, depleted, and drained. And because we carry ourselves with grace, people often label us “strong.” But let’s be clear: We are not just strong; we are fragile yet powerful.
The Hidden Cost of ‘Strength’
Strength suggests we are invulnerable, that we can shake off anything and just keep going. But the truth is, we internalize those aggressions. They affect us on the inside, leading to feelings of imposter syndrome, silent depression, and quiet burnout. We wear our pain behind our success, and sometimes, that leads us to hurt others unintentionally.
We also hide our crowns. We bury them deep within our hopes for the American Dream, believing that someday, it will all come together. But as DEI efforts are rolled back (and, in many ways, they will be), I say let them. Let them strip away the very foundation of their systems. Let them unravel the culture they’ve tried to build. Let them crumble.
It’s Time to Reclaim Our Energy
The truth is, that the energy we spend just to be seen is depleting us. It’s time to call our energy back and activate our soul power—the power that has always been within us.
The world knows who we are. They imitate us, appropriate us, and obsess over us. We are the subject of conversations, memes, and media from every angle. And that’s why it’s time for us to pick up our crown and declare: I am royalty.
There is nothing more beautiful on this planet than you. From the coal buried deep in the earth to the diamond created under pressure—you are magnificent. It’s time to honor your brilliance and claim your divine power.
Remember, you were divinely created before the world ever met you. No longer are we fighting to take up space. We are the space. And they wish they could occupy it.
Many Blessing,
Monica Wisdom
