In Her Words™: 100 Stories of Black American Women

A Cultural Preservation Initiative Presented by Black Women Amplified
Founded and Curated by Monica Wisdom

In Her Words™

In Her Words™ is a cultural initiative that recognizes the power, creativity, and lived experiences of Black American women. Our contributions have shaped the core of American culture and influenced communities across the world. Yet the depth of our stories has rarely been documented in our own voice. This project shifts that reality by placing our experiences at the center.

Founded by Monica Wisdom, In Her Words™ brings together one hundred personal stories that reflect the truth of who we are. These stories capture the ingenuity, resilience, beauty, intellect, and cultural force that define Black American women. They tell the real story behind the impact that has shaped a nation and touched the global landscape.

AT OUR CORE

ALIGNMENT

Living in truth with your voice, vision, and purpose.visual mockups.

HONESTY

Facing ourselves with clarity, compassion, and courage.

JOY

Choosing expansion, creativity, and delight as acts of power.

ACCEPTANCE

Embracing every stage of our journey with grace.

SOVEREIGNTY

Reclaiming authority over our choices, energy, and direction.

Our Cultural Presence

A new era for Gen X women ready to redefine what’s next.

Black American women are architects of culture. Our ideas, creativity, language, leadership, and survival strategies have fueled movements, influenced global style, redirected industries, and expanded what the world understands as American identity. We have created a cultural blueprint that reaches far beyond our neighborhoods and becomes part of how the world sees America.

Our impact is expansive.
Our influence is enduring.
What has been missing is our own record of how we did it.

In Her Words™ acknowledges this truth and creates a dedicated space where our voices stand on their own. This initiative treats our lived experience as essential cultural knowledge, not as a footnote or an afterthought.

A New American Narrative

The stories collected in this project reveal the tapestry of Black American womanhood. They reflect our creativity, strength, vision, humor, innovation, and the wisdom passed down through generations. They illuminate the ways we transformed challenge into courage and survival into leadership. Through these stories, a fuller picture emerges of how Black women continue to shape the modern American spirit.

Our Black American Story

Our story is part of the American tapestry.
Our presence has defined eras.
Our voice has influenced the world.
What has been missing is the consistent documentation of our experiences.
This is the work In Her Words™ exists to do.

A Global Cultural Contribution

Black American women are global cultural contributors whose ideas and influence travel far beyond the United States. From music to fashion, from social justice to storytelling, from entrepreneurship to creative expression, our presence is felt across continents. We have shaped global conversations while carrying identities that are often misunderstood or underrepresented in formal archives.

In Her Words™ recognizes this global footprint and begins to build a record that aligns with the truth. Our stories deserve the same visibility as our impact.

The Vision and the Mission

The mission of In Her Words™ is to document, honor, and preserve the lives of Black American women through first-person narratives. The long-term vision is to build a culturally grounded archive that reflects our presence, our influence, and our role in shaping American and global culture.

This initiative is the first step toward establishing a permanent home for our stories. A place that honors our lived experience, protects our history, and elevates our voice with the respect it deserves.

Our Future

What Comes Next

As the collection grows, this space will expand with new stories, thoughtful features, and future opportunities for engagement. This is foundational work and it will continue to develop with intention and care.

Stay Connected

If this initiative aligns with what you believe in, you are welcome to follow its progress, share it within your community, and recommend women whose stories contribute to the richness of our collective memory.

Honoring the Women Who Came Before Us

The foundation built by the women who carried truth.

In Her Words™ stands on the foundation built by the women who carried truth, vision, and courage into every generation. Their lives shaped our understanding of what is possible and created the cultural ground we walk on today. Their work expanded the language of power, creativity, freedom, and identity.

We honor Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, and Zora Neale Hurston for giving voice to our stories through literature.
We honor Rosa Parks, Fannie Lou Hamer, Coretta Scott King, and Ella Baker for showing the nation what resolve looks like.
We honor Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson for advancing science with brilliance that changed the world.
We honor Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Ida B. Wells, and Mary Church Terrell for turning conviction into action.
We honor Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Ava DuVernay, and bell hooks for expanding global imagination around Black womanhood.

We also honor the women whose names may not appear in history books but whose influence is woven into our families and communities. Women like Christie Shaw, Alice Windom, and Marianne Scott. Women who held households together, built community networks, created art, led classrooms, and passed down wisdom that shaped our identity long before the world took notice.

Their voices live inside ours.
Their choices created our opportunities.
Their courage made room for this archive to exist.

In Her Words™ honors them by continuing the work they started.
We preserve stories so that future generations inherit not only our achievements, but the truth of who we have been.
